Food Bank Fundraiser July 27th

Bake Sale & Lemonade Stand

Sat. July 27th … 10AM to 3PM

Corner of 3rd Ave. N.W. and N.W. 143rd St. in Seattle, 98177

Dearest, Friends, and Neighbors,

This is the 8th year for our granddaughter, Ellie, collecting donations for the local Food Banks. She created this project when she was 5 years old. Her good friends Annabelle, Sadie, Ruby, their siblings and families have also volunteered to help with this Annual Fund Raising Project. Since 2012 the children have raised and donated over $10,000 in cash, plus additional supplies, with boxed and canned food.

Ellie and her younger sister, Penny will again be baking goodies with grandma Jane, while the other girls and their families are busy preparing and baking as well. The children sincerely thank family, friends, and neighbors for donating baked goods and/or money to this very important cause. If you cannot join us for the event, you can always drop a donation in the mail, or come by our home listed below.

These youngsters are a shining example of truly loving and caring hearts !

Please pass this on to your friends, family, and neighbors.

12th Ave NW Basin Drainage Project Update

Dear neighbors,

We wanted to provide an update on the 12th Ave NW Basin Drainage project. The team is planning two types of drainage infrastructure for this project: grey (underground pipes) and green (natural drainage systems).

The project team has reached 30% design for the grey infrastructure. We’ll be building upsized conveyance pipes and storage pipes along 11th Ave NW between NW 120th St and NW 122nd St and on 10th Ave NW between NW 122nd St and NW 125th St. We’ll also be installing upsized conveyance pipes on NW 125th St between 10th Ave NW and 6th Ave NW. Conveyance pipes are used to carry flows from one place to another. See the dark blue line on the map at right for the alignment of all the grey infrastructure.

All of the drainage improvements will be constructed in the right of way. If you live along the grey alignment and have planted trees or placed other items in the right of way, such as fences, we may reach out to you and ask that they be moved before construction. At this time, the earliest the construction of the grey infrastructure will begin is late 2020.

The project team is still working on selecting the streets for the green infrastructure, or natural drainage systems. The green blocks on the above map show where we are considering natural drainage systems siting. Right now, our team is completing additional hydraulic modeling work to determine the most efficient combination of green and grey infrastructure. The results of the modeling should tell us how many blocks of natural drainage systems we need to install. Once we have that information, we’ll share it with the community.

Stay connected – for more info

Warm regards,

Broadview Team

Seattle Considering Traffic Congestion Pricing

The Seattle Department of Transportation has completed a study of options for congestion pricing of traffic.  Below is part of a longer description of the plans so far.

The City is in the early stages of gathering feedback, studying options, and using community perspectives to thoughtfully design a potential program that is equitable, transparent, and responsive to the city’s needs.

As a first step, the City started exploring congestion pricing to address traffic congestion, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, & create a more equitable transportation system.

Congestion pricing is one strategy that cities around the world use to improve mobility by charging a fee or toll for single-occupancy vehicles to use specific downtown streets.

Earthquake Response Exercise June 1st

Dear neighbors,
We’re activating the Broadview Emergency Communication Hub on June 1st.
Don’t know what an “Emergency Communication Hub” is; be vigilant about stopping by!  You will learn SO much about disasters and the impact an earthquake will have on your daily routine. Don’t be gobsmacked about our new reality – learn what to expect and discover how neighbors will help neighbors after a significant event.

Saturday, June 1st
9 AM to noon
Luther Memorial Church
(13047 Greenwood Ave. N)

Spend an hour with us between 9 AM and noon; you’ll be SO glad you did!

WHY invest the time?  You can’t google “how to handle utilities after an earthquake” if the internet is down.  You could walk to a store to buy bottled water (the roads might not be passable) but you’re in a race with every other family in the area that didn’t stock up ahead of time.  (Stores will empty out with no restocking in sight.)  The HUB does NOT store water; what we offer is information on how much water you should have tucked away – and how to utilize water from places you might not have thought of.  Without a cell phone signal it will be a challenge to communicate with loved ones.  We have strategies that might help.
