SDOT Paving Greenwood Next Thursday-Friday NIGHTs 8/18-19

Email sent to Broadview Neighborhood from Paul Elliott, SDOT Community Relations:

As you have probably noticed in driving along Greenwood this past week, the contractor for the City’s repaving between N 112th and N 136th has largely completed the initial step in the process, which involved grinding off the top 2 inches of the old asphalt.

I’m emailing today to let you know that the plan is to repave the northern portion, N 125th to N 136th, at night, and to do so next Thursday and Friday nights, August 18-19.

The plan is to repave the southbound lanes on Thursday night, and the northbound lanes on Friday.  Greenwood Ave itself will remain open with a single travel lane in each direction, but with traffic shifted to the side of the street not being paved.

Vehicles cannot drive on the roadway while the asphalt is being laid or for several hours afterwards until it cools.  We are in the process of notifying the many apartment buildings, condos, townhouses, the retirement/nursing/rehab facilities, the school, and the library, but also wanted to reach out to the community club.  Anything you can do to help inform the public would be appreciated.

Attached is a flyer we are distributing to folks, outlining these details.  Feel free to reproduce, or I’d be happy to drop off a stack of whatever quantity, should you so desire.

Please don’t hesitate to call or email if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks, and have a great weekend.

Concern About Project Impact on Salmon

Members of the Carkeek Watershed Community Action project have expressed concern about the impact of Seattle Public Utilities’ NW 120th St. Project on salmon in the streams in Carkeek Park.  Below is a message from  one of the members.

Hello Carkeek Park neighbors,

I am writing on behalf of Carkeek Watershed Community Action Project (CWCAP) and coordinate the imprinting and release of 70-100,000 salmon fry each Spring into Venema Creek.  The imprinting and release takes place about 20 feet from where Mohlendorph Creek joins Venema some 450 ft downstream from the proposed Outfall drainage pipe at the end of NW 120th Street.

Please visit carkeekwatershed.org/mohlendorph-creek where CWCAP documents its involvement with this Outfall and Drainage Project.

It’s my intention to provide open source information that depicts real outcomes of this project and the misleading premises from which it was permitted.

Seattle Seeks Input About Input

Council Adopts Rezone Legislation for Bitter Lake Village

On July 25 Seattle City Council adopted legislation to amend the Land Use Code to rezones sites in the Bitter Lake Village Hub Urban Village and to amend development standards. The zoning proposals are based on an inclusive planning process that led to the Broadview – Bitter Lake – Haller Lake Neighborhood Plan update and the Bitter Lake Urban Design Framework (UDF) that document the community’s development vision for the Bitter Lake Village Center. The UDF defines the land use regulations, streetscape design, and open space recommendations that will guide future development while ensuring Bitter Lake Village becomes a lively center for the community. In particular, it will encourage the development of a walkable business district along Linden Ave. N between N 130th and N 135th streets. The legislation will:

  • Rezone some Commercial 2 (C2) to Commercial 1 (C1) along Linden Ave. N.
  • Add a Pedestrian designation (P) to sites on the east side of Linden Ave. N, between N 135th St. and N 130th St.
  • Rezone sites on N 130th St. Between Linden Ave. N and Aurora Ave. N from C1 to Neighborhood Commercial 3 (NC3)
  • Rezone 2 sites on Aurora Ave. N from C1 to C2

The Mayor is expected to sign the legislation in early August.

Closure of 3rd Avenue NW between NW 104th and NW 107th Streets Sunday, July 31

SDOT advises travelers in the Broadview neighborhood that crews will close 3rd Ave NW between NW 104th St and NW 107th St for paving on Sunday, July 31.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, travelers can expect the following:

  • 3rd Ave NW will be closed to through traffic between NW 104th St and NW 107th St for grinding and paving
  • Signed detours will be in place:
    • Northbound travelers will be detoured onto Holman Rd NW, north on Greenwood Ave N and west on NW 125th St to go back to 3rd Ave NW
    • Southbound travelers will be detoured east at NW 125th St, south on Greenwood Ave N, west on Holman Rd NW to go back to 3rd Ave NW

This project is part of SDOT’s 2016 Arterial Major Maintenance (AMM) program. The AMM program maintains our busiest streets by making strategic small scale investments at key locations on city streets.

SDOT would like to thank the public for its patience while this work is completed.

The 66th annual Greenwood Seafair Parade this week!

From www.phinneywood.com

Greenwood Seafair Parade on Wednesday will bring 100+ floats, drill teams, marching bands to the neighborhood.

This year’s theme is “Greenwood: A Community United” with Fire Station 21 firefighters as the grand marshals, in honor of their heroism during the March 9 natural gas explosion that rocked the neighborhood.

The parade starts at North 95th Street and goes south along Greenwood Avenue North, then turns west on North 85th Street to 6th Avenue NW. (But Greenwood Avenue will be closed all the way up to North 105th Street for event staging.) Metro buses 5, 48 and 355 will be rerouted onto alternate nearby streets. See Metro’s Service Advisories page for detailed information.
