Celebrate Neighbor Day on May 3, 2025
It’s easy to feel isolated in a fast-paced world frequently dominated by tragic headlines and polarizing viewpoints that create divisions between people. But as the weather warms and spring blooms dot the landscape, we encourage you to slow down, take a breath, and remember that we are all in this together. In celebration of Neighbor Day on Saturday, May 3, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods invites you to rekindle community and spread a little kindness to your neighbors near and far.
Neighbor Day began in 1995 as a proclamation from Mayor Norm Rice as “a special day to celebrate the goodness in those around us and to reach out and strengthen our bond to each other.” Today, that seems more important than ever. We all have common ground that unites us, sometimes we just need to put forth the effort to find it. Neighbor Day is a time to spread joy by helping someone out, sparking up a conversation, or letting loved ones know that you are thinking of them.
Any kind action, big or small, strengthens community and builds a strong foundation of love and support for us all to grow. So, put down your phone, smell the flowers, and get out there and spread some love!
